Punknews.org FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Category: Main » 4 Specific Bands Covered on the Site

Answer:

  • 4.1 Why do you cover Green Day?

  • Yes, the staff likes Green Day, that's why we have a topic devoted to them. Any cries of sellout can be left back in 1996 when people still gave a damn. They've even reconciled with the indie purists over at Gilman St. Billy Joe runs a great indie label called Adeline, hangs with Aaron Cometbus, and his band still makes great music. We all really loved "Warning."

  • 4.2 Why do you cover Weezer?

  • Yes, the staff likes Weezer, that's why we have a topic devoted to them. Weezer is one of the bands that got the three of us into music and both the Blue Album and Pinkerton were very important to us in our younger years. Punk-related bands like The Pixies and Elvis Costello among others heavily influenced Weezer. They also tour with a lot of great punk bands. So no, we don't think they're too far outside our scope.

  • 4.3 Why do you cover Blink-182?

  • Because, odds are, they were one of the bands that got you into punk and you're just too afraid to admit it.

  • 4.4 Why does Bad Religion have their own topic?

  • We have great respect and love for Bad Religion, so that's a large part of it. The band usually has a large enough volume of news to justify their own topic. Plus their logo instantly draws attention to them aside from the typically high volume of Epitaph news.

  • 4.5 Why does Social Distortion have their own topic?

  • We have great respect and love for Social Distortion, so that's a large part of it. Lately news from Social D' is rare and we'd like it to stand out so that people notice it. Since we get a lot of questions about what Mike Ness & co are doing, having a specific topic lets you easily keep track of what we know.

  • 4.6 Why don't you cover the Starland Vocal Band?

  • Good question. We'll get on this pronto.
