God bless the Aquabats. It's nice to know in this day and age with every band seeming to try and outdo the other in the "poor pitiful me" department that a group as wonderfully ridiculous as this can still exist, and can also have the presence of mind to document their zaniness via video camera over the years. This double disc DVD set contains over three hours of live footage from shows spanning the band's whole career [and all 7 dozen or so of their members], and is a fun retrospective for a band that definitely exists to have fun. One hilarious piece of plastic. The epic battle between the Aqua Bats and (The diabolical, scourge of the seven seas) Powdered Milkman is worth the price of admission alone. The Ultra (or Mysterious) Kyu quit the band after the first batch of Floating Eye tours to go to college. And does anyone know what happened to ultra kyu and catboy? Who are the mormons in the aquabats? I think more dvd's should have singing retards. They are funny. I agree. This dvd is awesome to watch when you are doing drugs. trust me this is a narly dvd and everyone should buy it and be really stoked. the gwar comparison made me remember when the two of them did the ska parade radio show and the aquabats had to fight gwar. Ever since then it has been my dream for them to do a tour (or even one show, I would fly anywhere to see) on a real big stage with both gwar and the aquabats set up on stage playing songs back and forth while fighting. it would be incredible. the only thing that worries me is the mingling of the fans. I've seen Gwar quite a few times and some real sketchy characters come out of the woodwork. who are the aquabats playing with for those four shows? "Oh buddy ... Canadians are way better than Americans ... on so many levels Canada is a lot better than the US, and I live in the US. There aren't to many copies of the DVD available in Canada. Your best bet is to get it at www.fearlessrecords.com. If you really really want to buy it from a store, Sonic Union is distributing the DVD in Canada I've never seen the Aquabats, but their live show sounds a lot like GWAR, only they play ska and are probably a lot less offensive. Oh buddy ... Canadians are way better than Americans ... on so many levels i dont like shopping there because theyre fucking assholes "why does everyone act like its so bad to buy something at best buy? They have a pretty wide selection for cheap prices. Who gives a fuck if it's some large chain store?" Canadians are Snow Mexicans The Aquabats rock because they are not from Canada. I bought an indie CD at Rotate This (Granted it was hip hop - Sole) and it was $21.99. And Chain Of Strength was $18.99 which seemed a little up there for me... but i still bought it. why does everyone act like its so bad to buy something at best buy? They have a pretty wide selection for cheap prices. Who gives a fuck if it's some large chain store? I've never been to rotate but I have been to indy stores all over quebec and ontario, and I deffinately agree that prices for indy cds are terrible. Big stores like hmv can be even worse. As much as I hate to say it, best buy probably has the best prices if you can find what you're looking for Rotate is a really good store, but I mean its hard to get to living an hour away. Do you listen to metal as well? You guys are crazy. I also live in Toronto and have never had to pay more than 15-20 dollars for a cd. That goes for stuff on labels as small as Uprising, all the way up to Bridge Nine, Fearless, Jade Tree, Fat, Epitaph, etc. Just go to Rotate This (620 Queen St. West), nothing is over 20 dollars. It's the best indie store in town. There are some great indie record shops around town (in Toronto) and in most cities in Ontario as well yes... last time i checked an american dollar was worth something like $1.47 canadian, but i am sure that has changed significantly since 2001. But isn't that Canadian dollars, which is significantly less than US dollars? Canada has got squat in regards to indie selection. does anyone know when a new cd will be released? $53!? this score is for the use of "zaniness" in the review. I've been looking for this since it came out ... I too live up in Canada (Toronto) and have found it pretty hard to find serious awesomeness indeed. i cant wait to get home and buy this. dude, im pretty sure bigwig is done with fearless now. They don't have anyrhing undercontract and they are exploring their options, someone will pick them up for sure. I hmm... pretty good. There are only 2 Mormons in the band right now. Second disc, at the main menu, press the button to go to the left. The bicep should highlight. Press. Enjoy, or cringe Im glad to see you embrace the whole open minded spirit of punkrock. good on you. Whats worse than ska? Anything? Mormons playing ska. Goddamn this shit makes me want to kill myself. Because in my heaven ska never existed. I wouldnn't be walking around thinking, "man ska fucking sucks" because it never existed. Mormons make me want to do lots of drugs and get chicks pregnant. FUCK "Is it because I live in Canada?" None of my local stores had The Aquabats DVD either... so I settled for Best Buy. Does anyone know where to get it? Nice ending. Now if only they would get off their ass and make an album or two "singing "Music Of The Night" from Phantom Of The Opera with a grown man suffering from Down's Syndrome. Somehow, they keep a straight face for the 6 minutes the song runs." SUUUHHHHHWWWEEEEETTTTT!!! I gotta see this thing, good review, whatever label put this out should hire you to do pr The live show on the 1st disc is amazing. Chainsaw and The Robot really shine with their performances on guitar and sax/keys. "So was Travis Barker a mormon back when he played with these guys?" I'm definitely going to check this out. I haven't seen them play since sometime in mid-High School, but I always remember having a good time the half dozen or so times I saw them play. So was Travis Barker a mormon back when he played with these guys? Good review, I gotta check this thing out! I already pre-ordered it. is it available now?? the dvd is simply amazing, highlights: Bat commander flipping onto his neck, prince adams monster ballad, the commercials during the live set and the horribly funny easter egg I was lucky enough to see these guys for free a year and half ago at a school fair (the only good thing about my high school). It was one of the best shows I have seen to date. It was extremely entertaining. In retrospect, I'd go even if they charged $1,000 per person. it was that much fun. Yes, the Commander does backflips. They're very entertaining. This review was good, but here's how I would make it better: the aquabats are the greatest thing to happen to the "punk" seen in the last decade. let's hope they sign a deal and release their new record next year. "when i was a boy i used to live in corduroy, o.p. shirts and slip-on vans" I can't wait to pick this up. Does it show the commander doing back flips? |
