I'm not sure I will ever be able to look at another skateboard without thinking of Protest the Hero, just like I will probably never listen to Protest the Hero without thinking of skateboarding. While this association may seem odd, I can say without hesitation that learning to kickflip at 22 feels just as strange. With a clean, white Protest the Hero sticker courtesy of an AAM promo package slapped firmly to the bottom of my Blackout skateboard, I saw more of that sticker in one summer than I saw of the charcoal griptape I was trying to land on. And while I eventually found footing on the right side of the rotation with enough practice, the swirling, dicing guitarwork of "Sequoia Throne" will forever be the soundtrack of my late blooming trick arsenal.

I'm willing to call this "Musical Perfection". I think it's interesting - which is saying alot, considering the cookie cutter mold of most bands. Posted by jesuschrist on 2008-08-29 11:15:30 charcoal colored...not literally charcoal. duh. focus your piece of shit blackout - and stop rocking charcoal grip. that can't be good. The score is for your skateboard........and this silly band. This is a very good album, however I just found some moments, like the meow, and the keyboards out of place. Why is this review up now? A little late don't ya think. I dug this CD then and I still do now. It's not quite as good as Kezia but it still kicks some serious ass! Palms Read is sick too! one of my favorite bands ever. got to meet them at warped tour and they were amazing. and so what if they used protools, they pulled that shit off perfect live This bands vocals are aparently very polarizing. I happen to agree with the review. Protest The Hero fucking own. Roddy's vocals are really what set them apart from most bands, too. It's very very heavy yet extremely catchy and sing-along-capable. I love em. I can't deal with the vocals. Maybe I'll give them a second try, but I don't expect much. what the fuck ugh. dude, you're 22 and you're leaning to skateboard while listening to a terrible metalcore band. This and the Transistor Transistor record are my tops for album of the year. This cd fucking owns. Oh, and the new Russian Circles is amazing too. i could maybe like this band if i didnt find their singer to be audibly atrocious. *learning, even. ugh. dude, you're 22 and you're leaning to skateboard while listening to a terrible metalcore band. what the hell. This band is rad. Vocal melodies could be a tad better on this album, like they were on Kezia, but no complaints other than that. Even the screaming is up a notch. Album art is a little odd, but who cares? seriously, what the fuck is that album art Nothing wrong with ProTools, Matt. good album, and super-tech which is always cool, but i definitely prefer Kezia over this album. It's just much more listenable all the way through. Big time dissapointment after a superb debut. Essentially grown up listening to this band, being hometown exports and all. It took me a lot longer to get into this album as Kezia, but it's still catchy as all hell. Really different from their earlier roots of the Calculated Use of Sound ep (which they refuse to acknowledge even exists anymore), but still cool none the less. My favourite record of 2008 so far, along with Crystal Castles. And this is a better CD than Kezia. I would rather listen to Iron Maiden. ProTools the Hero can't stand the singer's voice I dig the guitars in this band, but the singer is really hit and miss. "if i want wank-tech i'll listen to dream theatre. Oddly enough, I was piecing together a review for this album on the train home from work just now. I felt it was a shame that it took this long to get reviewed. I found it coincidental when i saw this reveiw posted as i just purchased "Fortress" last week. I bought the cd not knowing much about Protest the hero and i still have listend to it much. I do dig their sound though, the mixture of thrash metal and punk is sick! It's not bad, but can't top Kezia. Good album, but parts kinda similar to Between the Buried and Me? I like this one, but it doesn't even come close to Kezia. More like Dillinger Turning Gay Plan. It's good, but I think I enjoyed A Calculated Use of Sound more. It's good, but I think I enjoyed Kezia more. I don't understand why everyone is shitting all over this band. This album kicks major arse!! I played it many times before running down to the ocean to find flat summer waves again. if i want wank-tech i'll listen to dream theatre. what the fuck is that album art shitty band alert |
