Video of the Week: Feature: Hot Water Music
Posted by chris on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 9:00 PM (EDT)
Epitaph Records

Hot Water MusicLast month, we caught up with recently reunited Hot Water Music in the city of bro-therly love. The band has been playing a string of shows since reforming last year.

In the first installment of this feature, the band discusses song selection for the shows from a catalog of 100+ to choose from, their first practice in three years, and guitarist/vocalist Chuck Ragan's thoughts on rejoining the other members that had been playing together in The Draft together since HWM's separation in 2005. Additionally, we'd like to give special thanks to Rob Huddleston, frontman for Ann Beretta and Foundation (along with bass duties for Inquisition) for playing the role of interviewer.

Go Kart Records

The MenzingersThis week's video, or the "Video Of The Week" if you will, features Scranton, Pennsylvania's Menzingers performing live in Richmond, Virginia. The four piece punk rock act has been working the road in support of their Go-Kart Records debut A Lesson in the Abuse of Information Technology, a record that's made huge fans of more than a few of your humble `Org editors. The Menzingers are on the road this month with Portland, Maine's the Leftovers if you want to check them out in person.

You can check it out below by clicking Read More.

Video of the Week: Western Addiction
Posted by chris on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 12:00 PM (EDT)
Fat Wreck Chords

Western AddictionAfter an extended hiatus, which allowed the Punknews.org Video Studio (aka my shitty home office) to relocate (to a new house!), Video of the Week returns. You know what the best part about moving is? Finding things you forgot you had. Case in point, this week's video. I caught Fat Wreck Chord's short-lived hardcore outfit Western Addiction back in early 2006. Featuring Chicken from Dead To Me, the group played a melodically brash form of late 80's hardcore with obvious influences from bands like....the one mentioned in the featured clip's song title. The track comes from their only full-length release, Cognicide.

You can check it out below by clicking Read More.

Last month, Ann Beretta returned to the stage after a long hiatus. Consisting of former members of Inquisition, Ann Beretta plays a brand of a rock-influenced punk consistent with bands like The Gaslight Anthem and The Loved Ones. This week's clip, "Not Invited" comes from that show and was featured on their last LP, Three Chord Revolution. The group will next perform in Baltimore at Insubordination Fest on June 27th.

No Idea Records

Glass And AshesThis week we bring you footage from Glass and Ashes, who recently released their S/T sophomore LP via No Idea Records (which we are also streaming in its entirety at the band's Punknews profile page). Their brand of punkrock fused with metal and hardcore tenancies has been compared to the likes of Planes Mistaken For Stars.

The following footage was again provided by our amigos at National Underground, a new site devoted to providing free, high-quality live performances of some of the best bands in punk, hardcore and other related genres. Check out the band's performance at the Fest V by clicking Read More.

Video of the Week: Henry Rollins (Black Flag era) interview
Posted by chris on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 10:00 PM (EDT)
Henry Rollins

Black FlagI wasn't quite sure what to run this week for our video. Then, fellow editor Justin sent me this interesting and hilariously uncomfortable (from a fellow interviewer's stance) video posted over at anti-hipster-yet-hipster-by-being-anti webzine Buddyhead. It features a young Henry Rollins being interviewed during his days with hardcore legends Black Flag. A few months ago, I tried to set-up a video interview with Mr. Rollins, but it didn't pan out. After seeing the following video, maybe that was a blessing in disguise.

Video of the Week: Landmines
Posted by chris on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10:00 PM (EDT)
Paper and Plastick

LandminesIn preparation for an upcoming tour, and debut LP release on Paper & Plastick, Richmond, VA's Landmines recently played a hometown show to test the new material. I worked with the band for a DIY live music video (translation: they paid for my "services" in beer") using a multi camcorder setup, something I've never done for my normal Video of the Week segment. Considering my inexperience, the final product didn't come out too bad. You can judge for yourself and flame away below.

The featured track is titled "Shadows and Ashes" and will be on the band's upcoming S/T record. You can check it out below by clicking Read More.

Video of the Week: Planes Mistaken For Stars
Posted by chris on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:00 PM (EDT)
No Idea Records

Planes Mistaken For Stars This week we are handing the Video of the Week reigns over to our friends over at National Underground. They started out in 2005 as a group of music enthusiasts who wanted to archive shows. They ended up with hundreds of sets recorded at The Fest (4-6) in Gainesville, and at shows all over Florida, recording studio quality audio and multi-camera video. The idea had been to start a label with the material, but eventually they decided to release it all online...For FREE! No gimmicks, just signup at NationalUnderground.org and you can download everything at absolutely no cost. They plan to release additional material soon from Fest 6, including sets from Dead To Me, Smoke Or Fire and American Steel

This week's video comes from Fest 5, and features the recently defunct Colorado post-hardcore-semi-metal outfit Planes Mistaken For Stars. Check it out below by clicking Read More.

Video of the Week: The Gaslight Anthem (interview/performance) Part 2, info on new record
Posted by chris on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 1:00 PM (EDT)
Side One Dummy Records

We return this week with the second installment of our interview/performance with the Gaslight Anthem. This segment includes two more live performances, and more of our talk with the band. If you missed it, you can check out part 1 here.

We also have some information on the band's new album. Our initial plan was to be clever and have Brian Fallon, Gaslight's singer/guitarist announce it in the video. But due to some technical issues, the footage and audio of that can't be used. However, we asked Brian about the new record and here's what he said:

Yeah, it comes out August 18th on SideOneDummy Records. It's called The '59 Sound.

Video of the Week: Smoke or Fire
Posted by chris on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 10:00 PM (EST)
Fat Wreck Chords

Smoke Or FireAfter the departure of some of Fat Wreck Chords' most beloved bands to other labels, Boston/Richmond group Smoke or Fire was left carrying the torch. With two solid releases since their moniker change, 2005's Above the City, and last year's This Sinking Ship, the band continues to tour relentlessly and put out great music.

Here's a clip from a recent performance, with Avail's bassist Gwomper filling in on 4-string. The clip features a track from each of the previously mentioned records. Click Read More to check it out below.

Video of the Week: Bomb The Music Industry! Part 1
Posted by chris on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 10:00 PM (EST)
Quote Unquote Records

After a trip to Vegas, followed by a trek to New Jersey, followed by unspeakable illness; Video of the Week returns with a special treat. We thought this tape was lost somewhere on the highways of America last summer, but alas, it was meant to be seen and has surfaced.

Last summer, we hung out with the one and only Bomb The Music Industry! (the band, not just Jeff), and the guys answered an entire article of ridiculous, racist, homophobic and just plain absurd comments and questions. Plus they played a show. Here's the first segment.
